This was a case of a spontaneous miscarriage that ended up this way due to pregnancy complications. But the truly amazing thing here is what we start from, what life starts from.
This small foot isn't even fully developed, blood vessels aren't all functional, bones are soft, skin is thin, and the different nerves of the foot still developing, so legs still have a bit more growing to do.
During many miscarriages and/or D&Cs (Dilation & curettage - surgical removal of part of the lining of the uterus and/or contents of the uterus by scraping and scooping) the fetus is broken up by clamps to remove it easier. If it is not done this way, it puts the mother at risk for complications resulting in her not being able to conceive again.
