The Descent: Part 2 (2009) —————————————— Set 2 days after the first movie. 'The Descent: Part 2' sees Sarah (Shauna MacDonald) return to the caves with the authorities to try and find her friends, however the creatures are still down there. This film isn't a patch on the first one. With a lower budget, weaker writing, lack of tension and character detail and interest. The only real aspect the film has going for it is some almost cartoon level of brutal blood and gore. The almost pink coloured blood sprays everywhere, limbs are torn. bitten and snapped off. The film tries to play it seriously for basically the whole run time aside from the final section where it embraces its B-movie production value even if it is unintentionally funny at the same time. However the rest of this film really isn't entertaining. The plot logic and certain scenes don't make any sense. For example the fact Sarah has literally been taken out of hospital by the Sheriff and now is returning to go back to the caves with them. Goes underground with them just starts to remember what happened to her and instead of trying to explain and warn them she decides to kick the Sheriff in the face and punch the other two people and run off. Also in two days of being unconscious she has apparently become Rambo, stealthily working her way through the caves and killing the creatures with ease and no panic and I just don't buy that. Luckily the cast are mostly either unlikable and/or annoying with no character development which means you'll just be happy when they get killed one by one throughout the movie, because a body count is all they are here for. The creatures aren't nearly as intimidating or frightening as the first movie and look far too human here at times. They just roam around (with terrible over use of lighting so you can see how bad the prosthetic and make up are on them at times) there isn't any tension with them here its just loud predictable jump scares and quick cutting editing when they attack. Also I swear near the end of the film you can see the actors literally just are painted the colours of the creatures with no effects except from teeth and facial features. Cntd in comments..
