NO FILTER!!✨✨✨ We are constantly inundated daily with reminders about the importance of a nourishing diet and exercise, as if those are the only important aspects of wellness (hello multi-billion dollar diet industry 🖕🏻). Living a healthy lifestyle has been painted as this concept only attainable by middle/upper class citizens. Like you all need to spend hundreds of dollars on lymphatic drainage massages, PRP facials, adaptogens, celery juice, etc. I’m not hating on any of these things, I actually enjoy and am well aware of the scientific benefits to lots of these, but they aren’t realistic nor a necessity to wellness for everyone! 🤷🏻♂️ — So I wanted to share some things that everyone can do that promote health & wellness that are FREE and DON’T have to do with food or exercise!! -👀 Drinking water- we all know that drinking water is vital to life, but most of us don’t drink nearly as much as we should. The recommendations say to aim for at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water. This is such an important thing as every faucet of your being depends on it.💧 — Getting direct sun exposure- this is hard for most of us in the northeast but we can try our best. Direct sun exposure allows cholesterol in the skin to absorb UV B radiation and convert it into previtamin D3 where it takes two steps in the liver and then the kidneys to become the Bio-active form-Vit D3. Sun exposure also helps regulate your circadian rhythm and boost your serotonin which is a precursor to melatonin #sleep (of course sun exposure should be customized to your health needs/ bio individuality). ☀️ — Having a sense of community- whether it be a friend group, sport, religion, club, etc. having this sense of belonging engenders health benefits-“Oxytocin, the bonding hormone, also helps to stimulate dopamine, a neurotransmitter that drives our internal reward system and encourages us to learn, explore, and achieve psychological wellness. This is boosted when we spend time with friends or have this sense of community” Oxytocin also inhibits the release of stress hormones like cortisol, which in high amounts can cause negative effects in our body. 👬 — What’s your favorite free wellness?
