  • Just trying to get a pic in my groufit but I’m getting mad judged by dogos😅 Yesterday I had a long day at work and then had an appointment straight after so by the time I got home I was v tried. Bae wasn’t home either so I didn’t have anyone to answer to possibly skipping the gym. Just, me, myself and my own lack of motivation, but I knew if I skipped the work now it would be more work later. Staying motivated isn’t always easy, especially with a super hectic schedule (hence my absence on here).   • #iwokeuplikethis Ok not really I woke up like this last weekend and forgot to post it🙈 This is one month since my last progress picture post! I can clearly see a difference in my body since the last picture I took!! While my weight has remained the same my body composition is completely changing! I’m leaning out a lot and my clothes are definitely looser! I know it gets incredibly frustrating when you look at the scale and the number is stuck and won’t go down! For me I don’t believe it’s possible to drop any more weight with out losing my muscle and I’m ok with that! Gotta wrap your head around the fact that just because the scale doesn’t move doesn’t mean you aren’t achieving any of the results you’re searching for... try taking #progresspictures and body measurements...and pay real close attention to how your clothes are fitting... one thing I wish I would’ve been diligent with is taking pictures every so often so I can see a visible difference... I’m currently not trying to cut and just working on the base phase of my #rpstrength template and yet I’m still seeing changes in my body!! It’s crazy what a difference diligently following a diet plan does for you! Best part is I’m not limited!!   • Seal rows, a great upper back accessory that doesn’t tax the lower back. Helps me a lot now that I squat 3x a week and deadlift twice. Dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, football bar, straight bar, can do this many ways. . Simple tip: If you want to track your bodyweight progression in weight gain/loss, you should weigh yourself around the same time every morning with no clothes. Take averages week to week and use this as your guide on the adjustments you need to make with your caloric intake. There’s a ton of variables that aren’t always going to be consistent that can affect your weigh ins (water weight, eating late, activity level of a specific day) so you need to be aware of that.   • This is truly the palest I have ever been in my life😭 but I’m trying to let my damn skin breathe so here we are!!! Really trying to work hard in the gym lately despite having *zero* motivation. Fast forward to what I believe one the youngest athletes to ever qualify for Junior Nationals at 9 years old. She is such a hard worker and she comes to compete!   • My favorite accessory exercise for any press. If these ever give you elbow issues, try using fat grips/a thicker handle. We all know caffeine is very popular in todays society and lot of people depend on it to get through their day. It works as a stimulant to your sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight). It increases alertness, pain tolerance, increases motivation, and depresses your appetite. It is time tested, FDA approved and can aid you in training harder on any given day.   • I believe the first step to being successful is recognizing that’s progress is not linear! This is my current body composition which is constantly changing day by day month by month swipe right ➡️to see my before which was taken prior to @thegranitegames I was weighing in around 175# on average which is the heaviest I’ve ever been! While I was not necessarily fat or overweight I definitely was not particularly the most #healthy I just ate whatever I wanted however much I wanted when I wanted which usually consisted of junk as in 🧁 cupcakes 🍪 cookies and another other sweets I could get my hands on (in significant amounts 🙈) my athletic performance didn’t seem to suffer as far as I know but I could tell body weight movements and flexibility were more of a challenge And I believe I was full of inflammation I’ve been using @rpstrength templates to get my eating under control which has led to some serious performance benefits as well as improved appearance! Current weight 157-158 I’ve not even had to go on the cut template and I’m currently using only the base phase which has clearly made a difference! I still get plenty of food and my energy and performance have improved!   • The best muscle gain rates can be generalized between .25-.5% of bodyweight gain each week. This way weight gain is detectable with fat gain being minimal. If you gain too much fat too quickly, it will have a negative impact on your performance. It could change your mobility, and it could change your leverages. This could help one lift and hurt another. Higher body fat percentages can also be linked to numerous different diseases which aren’t good if health is a priority to you.   • Morning bodyweight was 225 today. Some tips for hard gainers: Pick lower volume, higher calorie foods. A lower protein intake can help as protein is very filling and not needed as much during a gaining phase. Liquid calories make it a lot easier as well. Caffeine consumption can kill your appetite and make you burn more calories, so a lower amount of caffeine during times of weight gain aids in the process too.   • Creatine has consistently shown an increase in performance as well as muscle retention and growth. Although this is well supported, the mechanisms of its actions are still unclear. Those with more fast twitch muscle fibers tend to benefit more from creatine than others. Creatine monohydrate is my personal pick, and I think taking 5 grams a day is plenty. I have never cycled creatine and don’t see a point. The creatine phosphate system is the most immediate used in high intensity training, especially applicable if you’re a powerlifter.   • Triples Highbar pause. It’s so common to see ads for something to help deal with inflammation or get rid of it entirely. You have to understand why we have inflammation. Acute inflammation is a huge part of recovery and will come when training is a priority. Helps fight off infection. Chronic system inflammation is a little different, as it can lead to more serious complications.   • Ez 8’s. 100% diet adherence is unlikely. It doesn’t have to be perfect as long as you are consistent and stick with it majority of the time. Life happens. I know as the new year approaches a lot of individuals are going to try to get in shape. Start by educating yourself and understanding it.   • Did 5x10x285 close grip, put on a 1 inch board and did a 3x30 with 225 after. You sweat out double the amount of water than your GI tract can handle. It is normal for athletes to become dehydrated during a long session. If you show up dehydrated, you’re already behind.   • Three things I’ve learned from reading @rpstrength 2.0 . - Protein is always used, but needs to be spread out evenly throughout meals for protein synthesis. You can only synthesis a certain amount, extra protein isn’t wasted, contrary to popular belief, just used for glycogen. . - Fat should be as close to the minimum as possible to allow for more carbohydrates in a strength athlete, although having fat higher can lead to higher adherence, more flexible eating and it’s more fun. . - Nutrient timing can make a difference as much as 10%. Think about top 3 athletes at a national meet, or in the Olympic. They’re usually neck and neck. This “small” difference is huge. The content here is phenomenal and in depth. I’m only on chapter 5 and I’ve already learned a lot. Would already recommend it as a read for any strength athlete, team sport athlete or endurance athlete as they have something specifically for you.   • Today I ran the Daimler Holiday 5k hosted by Foot Traffic. I set out to run a sub-18, something I have been chasing for a year since I ran this race in 2017. Leading up to today I felt incredible. My training runs were spot on, I wasn't feeling fatigued, I was so optimistic and ready for it to happen. My official time is 19:30. My 5k PR is 18:12. I'm so far away and I don't have an answer as to why. Maybe I just wasn't feeling it this morning. I didn't feel that pre-race adrenaline. Was I so confident that I didn't have the nerves to move me faster? I really have no idea. I promptly drank my free Deschutes beer at 8:45 am with my hot chili then went to City State Diner for some much needed brunch. My first time there and it was amazing! I can't even pick out what the best part of the meal was. I came home and made apple cranberry oat cookies for work, just because. Swipe for food. I am feeling pretty bummed about my race still, to be honest. I can still feel the post-race adrenaline and keep going through it all in my head. What I do know is I will keep fighting every single day. I'll try to move on not feeling discouraged but hopeful.   • First time using the transformer bar. In the front squat variation. It feels similar to the old shitty titan SSB I had in this setting 😂 like this is pure upper back. Hardest part is unracking and walking it out. Still following my weight gain template with @rpstrength and bodyweight is slowly but consistently climbing. Spreading my meals out and eating more early in the day makes gaining a lot easier for me, I notice the days that I don’t do that it’s much harder. #rpathlete #teamrpstrength
