If all goes to plan, we will be consumer debt free on the 31st of October - that's when I'll make the last debt repayment towards our credit card EVER!! So I thought I'd share what we plan on doing thereafter. 👉 GROW OUR EMERGENCY FUND Our emergency fund was sitting at 4k, but we depleted that a fair bit by utilising it to pay off our personal loan, so now we have just shy of $800 in there. Not great, not bad either, but moving forward we want to get serious about this. Our plan is to start building up our EF in our mortgage offset account, so it will help with home loan repayments, give us a nice safety net and in 5 or so years time, we plan on using some of that money to buy an investment property. The 120k covers our mortgage repayments, monthly expenses and provides a monthly buffer too. 👉 INVEST IN SHARES Since we will have no debt to repay aside from our mortgage, we will focus more on investments. 10k is what we would ideally like to achieve but, we will be happy with anything really. We'll likely utilise our tax return and annual leave loading lump sum payments to push it to 10k. This money will be kept for our kids more than anything, a personal choice we are happy with. 👉 COMPLETE OUR BUILD An exciting one! We hope to be in our new home by the end of next year, even possibly August/September. 😱 The construction will be financed but costs related to furnishings, decor, homewares, and joinery I will cash flow. Never going into consumer debt again! 👉 ONE HOLIDAY ANNUALLY This one is simple. We love travelling and I think it's important to experience life outside of our bubble, so we hope to cash flow one family holiday a year. Writing all this out is exciting and I think such a good process for anyone still paying off debt. Deciding what good use you'll put your money towards is crazy motivational!
