INJURY INFO Today our injury is a DEAD LEG 🦵 or otherwise known as a muscle contusion. . Dead legs are very common in contact sports such as football and rugby. . The injury occurs as a result of a direct impact to a muscle. This causes the muscle to go into spasm and for the muscle to be crushed against the bone. It will feel very uncomfortable to the player and it will feel as though they can’t use their muscle to its full capacity, as it will feel weaker and will be unable to contact as well. . TREATMENT For a dead leg you are wanting to immediately ice following cease of activity. This will help to ease the pain, reduce swelling and promote healing. The aim is to bring the bruise out! Following 3-4 days after injury sports massage can be applied to the area to help relieve muscle tension, as well as applying light stretching to the muscle. . IMPORTANT that massage or heat are not applied in the first 72 hours post injury as it can cause detrimental effect to the injury and could even make it worse. .
