Local secrets, join us each week as we discover some iconic and some lesser known Magnetic Island secrets. #16/52. Magnetic Island is home to the largest colony of koalas in North Queensland and it isn’t too hard to spot one in the wild. Take the Forts Walk and keep your eyes peeled, people often signal which trees they’re in by leaving sticks on the ground! Be respectful and keep a bit of distance as getting too close can really stress them out and even cause mumma koalas to abandon their babies, if you really want to touch or hold one head to Bungalow Bay and take a wildlife tour. Maggie is also lucky enough to have the Bee family who run a Koala Hospital and have saved and rehabilitated hundreds of koalas, keep your eye on Netflix in 2020 as a series about wildlife warrior Izzy Bee is released.
