On this day in 1934, John Dillinger was gunned down by the police. Dillinger a guy that could never stay away from trouble, decided to form a crew to rob banks while he was on parole. While in prison, Dillinger surrounded him self with the top bank robbers of Indiana and picked their brains. Him and his men robbed a total of 24 banks, stole over $300,000, and killed several officers on their year long robbery spree. In between these robberies, Dillinger was arrested three times and escaped all those times. During his third escape, he stole a sheriff’s vehicle and drove it from Indiana to Chicago. This crossing of state borders was a federal offense and got the FBI involved. Dillinger realized that his identity was easily recognizable, therefore he had plastic surgery performed on his face. The FBI put a $10,000 bounty on Dillinger and eventually a brothel worker, Ana Sage who feared of getting deported stated where Dillinger would be and he ended up getting killed by the police.
