This is where the Finnish equivalent of Romeo and Juliet lived. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ PS: They had a better ending! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Catherine Jagiellon, a Polish princess, came to live in the Castle of Turku after her marriage to the Duke of Finland, John III. John's half-brother, Eric XIV, who was the reigning King of Sweden, had also planned to negotiate a marriage with Catherine. This, among other factors, increased tensions between the two. Eric declared war on his brother and sent him to prison. Catherine was allowed to return to Poland, but she chose to accompany John to prison and even gave birth to their first two children there. John and Catherine lived happily till she died of illness.
