It seems like only yesterday, while there was still snow on the ground, a kind man named Lee French sent us an email asking if he could make and hang bird boxes to Vesper Meadow. We trudged around and post-holed through the snow, installing over 20 bird boxes to help make vital habitat for birds that prefer to be inside a tree. NOW, Lee is one of our regular Preserve volunteers AND you have a chance to learn "Nestbox Basics" from him on Sept. 12th! (Details on our website and facebook) We will walk and watch birds, examine the nest boxes and discuss the details of creating, maintaining your own bird boxes. After many years of birding and making bird boxes, Lee can provide many considerations for us to learn from! With the lack of old growth and trees that have holes available for nesting, we are enhancing this importan niche for several species. This summer, we saw Bluebirds, Tree Swallows, Wrens, Chickadees use these nest boxes!
