“You are in an emergency exit seat and may be CALLED UPON...” ✈️ What would you do if you were called upon? If you’ve ever flown a commercial plane you might be aware that the coveted seat (outside of business class) is the emergency exit row. It has another 12 inches of extra legroom and provides additional space to stretch out, recline and relax. If you haven’t flown before — alongside the wing of most planes is a small door that sits on either side, separating the controlled cabin pressure and the outside world — the guardians of this door are assigned at random, first come, first serve, to whoever verbally accepts the responsibility of leadership... and the additional leg room. In the event of an unexpected landing or God forbid a crash — the strangers in row 11 are expected to open the door and assist the safe evacuation of 160+ lives... Under stress, duress, panic and emotional strain these men (and woman) are “CALLED UPON” and expected to SHOW UP AND LEAD the lives of others. They are expected to make selfless decisions for the betterment of others — think clearly, communicate and remain calm. Here’s what I’ve come to realize with my time on this planet and seeing how ABOVE AVERAGE MEN show up under the stress of The Project — a simulated experience that is DESIGNED TO TEST AND TRAIN men to lead under pressure... The average man has a hard time leading their own life under the pressure of the average day. The average man under average pressure becomes selfish, self serving and completely unfit to lead. Not surprisingly, it’s the average man that sits in row 11 looking for the COMFORT AND CONVENIENCE of the extra leg room — more room to stretch out, and more room to relax — not more reasons to lead their life or the lives of others. The average person lives a life UNTESTED asleep and unaware of the responsibility that their life carries — and the impact they can have on others... Here’s the sobering truth... Leadership is always — in the uneventful moments of everyday life, the small impacts on others, and the unexpected ambushes when you are randomly CALLED UPON. So the question... what will you do WHEN you are called upon? .
