That’s right, slave OWNERS got reparations🤔.President Abraham Lincoln signed a bill on April 16, 1862 giving slave owners up to $300 per enslaved person that was freed. Enslaved African-Americans got NOTHING for their generations of stolen bodies, snatched children, and expropriated labor other than their mere release from legal bondage. #reparations#knowledgeispower#blackhistory365#themoreyouknow
JUNETEENTH 6/19/1865 because our ancestors were working on JULY 4TH, 1776 🤔 In 1865, enslaved African Americans were notified of their freedom by Union troops in Galveston Bay, TX—two and a half years AFTER the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Known as #Juneteenth, this day is widely celebrated as the end of slavery for melanated people in the U.S. This day is a necessary reminder that 154 years later, Black and brown Americans still feel the harsh reality that the fight for racial equality in our country is not over.We are plagued with constant reminders from the media and from the person seated in our highest office. Our "free"dom comes at a cost every single day because our government has reinvented slavery in many other forms. This is our Independence day. Emancipation then....Liberation now!!!! #juneteenth#1865#emancipation#liberation#melaninpride#remembrance#GREATNESS#myancestors#blackhistory365#galvestonisland#amateurphotographer#lessons 📸 taken at Galveston Island as a history lesson for our children!
