Global Tiger Day... Tiger numbers to be announced today by the PM and good news expected. It is expected that the 2018 census would also record an increase, assumed to be at least 20 per cent. Good...but then, let's pause for a moment and look at the challenges we are facing. Fair enough the Tiger population is increasing, but where is the space for these new Tigers ? Day by day the forest is shrinking. Out of India's land space we hardly have just 1.2% forest area(PA) among the various Tiger Reserve's of India. On the other hand we all keep saying, we need to save the Tiger. Now who is this "we"? The problem is that we all expect someone else to save the Tiger for us, while we keep commenting on social media when a Tiger gets killed saying humans are the worst enemies of this planet blah blah blah... With all due respect to those who are fighting this war day in and out, the rest of us (including me) needs to seriously think about about our contributions..what are we doing about it? How can we help in this effort to save this magnificent beautiful animal. Directly or indirectly every small effort we put in, in saving the environment will go a long way to support this cause. So, take a pledge today, read(google) about the issues we are facing and pick your battle. It could be as simple as stop/reduce usage of plastic stuff...not to litter in the forests...following the ethics of wildlife photography...could be anything. Will conclude my post talking about the other pic taken by my friend Swaroop Gokhale (@swaroop2812 ) at Ranthambhore. Such a powerful image, a Tiger chewing on a chips packet...it conveys the sorry state of our current environment and forests. Take a moment and decide how you want to contribute. Read about the issues and comment below on what battle you have decided to pick and work towards it. Good luck to us in really saving this tribe...the Royal Bengal Stripes!!!
